Clinical Characteristics and Treatment Course of Emergency Admission Patients by Article 26 of Mental Health Acts due to Suicide Related Problems in a Psychiatric Hospital

Abstract
Objectives : This study aims to identify the characteristics of emergency admission patients due to suicide related problems and to investigate the treatment course after treatment, as it can help in ways to lower the suicide rate.

Method : We conducted a survey on emergency admission patients by Article 26 of Mental Health Acts in metropolitan Eunpyeong hospital, regarding socio-demographic, clinical information and whether admission continuity after emergency admission and connection with community mental health center, between May 2012 and December 2013.

Results : In the study, there were a total of 74 participants, the majority were 50¡¯s and male. The diagnosis is of the following, 37 (50.0%) participants were depressive disorders. Sixty-five (87.8%) participants was advised to admitted for treatment and 23 (35.4%) of them continued admission. Seventeen (23.0%) was already in control of case management and 33 (44.6%) was connected with community mental health center when discharged.

Conclusion : To maintain continual treatment of emergency admitted patients, it may need the support of medical expenses for treatment, public education and information on depression and suicide prevention. In addition, public education and information should be connected with community mental health center and active construction for case management system, to reduce the suicide rate of vulnerable people.
